A beautiful but endangered species

I received my breeders around August of 2020 through Dan's Fish who imported them from Jefferey Christian in Indonesia. Jefferey accompanied Hans Georg-Evers on an expedition to collect the Melanotaenia Klasioensis in January of 2020.

According to Hans Evers:

"Seems that the Sungai Klasio is going to dry out due to a cement fabrication that started operating a few years ago. We found M klasoensis in stagnant water. I think it is worth breeding them to keep this species alive at least in aquaria."

For more detailed information about the collection of this fish please check out the article Hans wrote for ANGFA Vol. 34 No. 3 and the May/June 2021 edition of Amazonas Magazine.

Habitat

Adrian Tapin notes on the ANGFA Website that:, "Melanotaenia klasioensis is currently known only from the Klasio Creek. Klasio Creek is a karst resurgence of less than 5 metres width with a course of a few kilometres before disappearing in a subterranean outlet probably connected to the underground course of the Fasin River. The habitat in the vicinity of Malabolo Village consisted of a crystal clear stream, relatively shallow (up to about 1 metre), and flowing over white sand and limestone boulders in secondary forest."
