Ivanacara bimaculata, one of the best additions to the hobby in recent years. Although old to science, it is just now being available globally for aquarists. To better highlight the species, I am keeping editing as low as possible. After keeping this incredible cichlid for the past couple years, I just wanted to highlight its beauty and document a bit of its story before reaching commercial success in the US. The larger pair highlighted in is the F1 pair that I imported from the collector, Gustav Eek in Sweden in the summer of 2022. These would become the progenetors of most fish in the US (as of 2024). By mid 2025, others who imported from Gustav started breeding in the US. By this time, I. bimaculata has already become widely available now (2026). With the addition of European bred fish being available, there will be more genetic diversity available in the future.
